In May the Troopers attended the European Congress of Endocrinology 2015. The annual congress is held by the European Society of Endocrinology (ESE). This year it was held in Dublin, Ireland. The congress is an opportunity to educate endocrine doctors and nurses from all over the world on the latest scientific and clinical advances in the world of endocrinology.
There was a big focus on pheo/para this year with presentations from several leading doctors on the soon to be published guidelines from the ESE. Karen Adams, NIH, also gave a very interesting presentation on preparing for pheo/para surgery and alpha blockade.
Allen Wilson (N. Ireland), Jenny Taggart (Ireland), and Vincent Coonen (Netherlands) all attended on behalf of the Pheo Para Troopers and the newly formed European Pheo Para Patient Initiative (EPPPI). We were one of six patient association booths and we attracted a lot of attention. Many doctors and nurses came to speak to us to learn more about the two organizations. The most encouraging part of the congress was the fact that all the medics we spoke to were genuinely interested in finding resources that would improve the lives of their patients.
The Troopers and EPPPI have committed to work closely together going forward and we envisage that the congress was the first of many joint endeavors.
